I know that this may seem weird, but I only have one biological brother who happens to be the Head Coach at Western State University in Colorado. It's a D2 school but nonetheless, he's turned the program around and they're consistently ranked in the top 15 in the nation, as of this day, they're ranked #5. It's hard to follow in his footsteps. My dad, God bless his soul, gleams with pride to everyone about him. That leaves me, who wasn't sure what he wanted in life until I created Hit Squad. To be honest, I'm not even sure if this will work. Outside of my brother, I technically have 12 other brothers and sisters. It's just the way our culture works. I'll be the first to tell you, they have done things that I could probably never do. They're successful, most have families, and I think they're happy. That leaves me, the outsider, who struggled with a disease that should've killed me over 20x by now.
I used to compare myself to them thinking that I did things that they never did but at the end of the day, it didn't matter because I wasn't happy. THEY are my biggest fans and understand that I've been through so much, they have given me grace when I probably didn't deserve it. We have a group chat called "#SQUAD," it was created during Covid, and we started a Fantasy Football league. We talk a lot of crap to each other, most of us don't talk as often as I'd like but they've been there for me. I truly believe that if it weren't for them and my nieces and nephews, that I wouldn't be alive today. They give me something to fight for on a daily basis. We lost a sibling this year and it was tough to deal with. Mentally, I questioned God, "Why him?" "Why didn't you take me?" who has nothing going on in his life compared to Opkar (Michael). I choose to fight the good fight every day, I may not always be ready for what the day has to offer but with a SQUAD like I have, anything is possible so thank you FAM! Your support, I wish everyone in the world has because life is tough, but together, we're tougher! I encourage everyone to have a #SQUAD and I truly believe Hit Squad can be yours. Together, we can accomplish ANYTHING.
